The Comanche 202 Foundation is a not-for-profit organization formed in 2007 to ensure the restoration, preservation and operation of the historic U.S. Navy tug and Coast Guard vessel Comanche. The organization plans a number of programs around the vessel, including maritime educational programs on sea survival, shipboard safety, seamanship and other training in nautical arts and skills. The ship will be made available to youth organizations, such as Sea Scouts, the Coast Guard Auxiliary, and veterans groups. Eventually, the public will be allowed to tour the vessel and learn about the role of ATA-type ships in the Navy and Coast Guard. The role of the foundation is to provide direction, management and marshal the support required for these activities.
