The Island County Historical Society began in 1949 as an effort to save a historic home and expanded to include the history of Island County, which is primarily Whidbey Island, the largest island in Puget Sound. The organization operates the Island County Historical Museum on the historic Coupeville waterfront and Penn Cove.
