Heritage Task Force
4Culture, King County’s arts and heritage development agency, started
its Maritime
Heritage Initiative in 2003 to address a crisis in the preservation
and interpretation of maritime heritage in Seattle and the surrounding
area. On December 6, 2005, the task force released its report. See below for more information. |

In partnership with the National Park
Service, the Washington Trust for Historic Preservation, the Association
of King County Historical Organizations, and Historic Seattle, 4Culture
convened its Seattle/King County Maritime Heritage Task Force in 2005
to recommend a new direction for local maritime heritage and education.
On December 6, 2005, the Task Force released its 105-page Final Report, which contained a number of key recommendations for the preservation and interpretation of Seattle and King County's maritime heritage. Download the report, or visit the Maritime Heritage Initiative page for more information.

Taks Force Mission Statement
Create a vision and chart a course for a sustainable maritime heritage
presence in Seattle, King County, and Puget Sound.
Tak Force Objectives
- Recommend a leadership and organizational model to move forward
with strategic planning for maritime heritage in Seattle/King
County.
- Define a long-range vision for a vibrant, multi-faceted maritime
heritage presence on Puget Sound.
- Analyze fundamental issues and needs, including:
- Identification of potential sites for long-term display and
work place moorage for large historic vessels;
- Identification of resources: funding mechanisms and sustainable
revenue sources; and
- Identification of community support: a broad-based coalition
of business, tourism, and cultural entities.
